Major General Peter Davies CB was commissioned into the Royal Signals in 1958. His final military appointment was GOC Wales. He was Colonel Commandant Royal Signals and Colonel, The King’s Regiment.

He formed and chaired the committee for Animals in War having seen a proposal article in The Daily Telegraph. With the help of his wife’s cousin, Professor Bryan Kneale RA, a national competition was held to select the best concept for the Memorial; David Backhouse’s design gained the unanimous approval of the committee.

Peter Davies was Director General of the RSPCA from 1991-2002, Director General of the World Society for the Protection of Animals from 2002-2009 before becoming Chairman of The Brooke in 2009. He was Chairman of The Marjan Centre for the Study of Conflict and Conservation in the War Studies Department of King’s College, London. He was President of the Eurogroup for Animals 1992-2002, President of The Jullundur Brigade Association, and is currently Chairman of the Fadeaways Society,
